The Lord-Lieutenant is Her Majesty the Queen’s representative in the county, responsible for arranging and attending Royal Visits to Hampshire, tonight he was presenting Merit awards for service across the armed forces and cadets in Hampshire.

Each year, the Lord-Lieutenant appoints several young people to serve as his Lord- Lieutenant’s Cadets. They are selected from the Sea Cadets, Army Cadets, the Air Training Corps, and the Combined Cadet Force and from the civil uniformed youth organisations – Scouts, Girl Guiding and the St John Ambulance – across Hampshire.

We are proud to announce this year James Toogood (Assistant Scout Leader 1st Hart Plain & Waterlooville Youth District Commissioner)  has been appointed to serve as a Lord- Lieutenant’s Cadet for Hampshire.

When on duty, Lord-Lieutenant’s Cadets wear a distinctive sash with the badge of their appointment, to denote their role. They assist the Lord-Lieutenant as required – often on parade for Royal visits – and act as ambassadors for their organisations and the young people of Hampshire, for a one year term.

James was presented with a fine badge exclusive only to these selected cadets, did you know that it is made with gold thread!
